In 2005, Jim Andella, a resident volunteer submitted a proposal to the Town of Tewksbury suggesting to convert a
1.10-acre parcel off Whipple Road overlooking Long Pond into a memorial park in honor of the Mahoney Family. Jim, having a childhood connection with the Mahoney's and recognizing the tragedy that occurred on New Year's Even in 1975 in Tewksbury, wanted to create a lasting "Place of Peace". Along with Jim's construction of the park, the Town of Tewksbury agreed to maintain the park in perpetuity. The park provides a peaceful location in the Town for residents to relax, fish, launch a kayak, and enjoy the great view of the pond.
