Project Description
This MassDOT project involves modifications to the existing LRTA bus stops near 1890 Main Street (near McDonald’s Restaurant). The modifications include the addition of solar rectangular rapid flashing beacons (RRFBs), pedestrian curb ramps, detectable warning pads, addition of a refuge island, sidewalk and curbing upgrades, and pavement marking modifications.
The bus stop modifications are part of a larger project with similar modifications being constructed at eleven (11) bus stops located in eight (8) municipalities in throughout Eastern Massachusetts.

Project Updates
September 4, 2025
MassDOT has notified the Town that Aqua Line Utility, Inc. will begin work in the sidewalk areas starting on September 5, 2025. Initial work will include sawcutting in the sidewalk and curb on both sides of Rte. 38 near 1890 Main St. Some lane shifting of traffic on Rte. 38 is anticipated to be required. Delays are anticipated and motorists are urged to avoid the area if alternate routes are available.
August 26, 2025
Aqua Line Utility will be starting the construction on this project next week. Work will be completed in Lawrence and Lowell before progressing to the location in Tewksbury. Work is anticipated to start in Tewksbury sometime in October 2025.
May 28, 2025
Work on the overall project is tentatively planned to begin after July 4, 2025. The exact schedule for the Tewksbury portion of the project is still to be determined.
Roadway Closure/Detour Information
No roadway closures are anticipated as part of this work.

Construction is planned to begin on this project on September 5, 2025.
Typical Work Hours
Monday to Friday from 7:00AM to 3:00PM, excluding holidays. No work in the roadways is anticipated from 7:00AM to 9:00AM.
