CodeRED
The Tewksbury Police Department has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification solution.
The CodeRED system provides the Tewksbury Police Department the ability to quickly deliver messages to targeted areas or the entire Town. High speed notification systems are only as good as the telephone number and email address database supporting them. If your phone number or email address is not in the database, you will not be called or emailed. One of the reasons the CodeRED system was selected is it gives individuals and businesses the ability to add their own phone numbers and email addresses directly into the system's database. This is an extremely important feature. No one should automatically assume his or her phone number or email address is included.
Enrolling
Individuals and business owners are encouraged to enroll by going to the CodeRED Community Notification Enrollment page. You can also enroll via text message by sending "TPDCodeRED" to 99411. Those without internet or text access may call the Tewksbury Police Department at 978-640-4380, ext. 214 to supply their information over the phone. Required information includes first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number, additional phone numbers and email addresses can be entered as well.
Those individuals who wish to receive text messages should include the name of their mobile provider on the online form or in the message left on ext. 214. Individuals with unlisted phone numbers, those who use a cellular phone or VOIP phone as their primary number, or those who have changed their phone number or address within the past year are also encouraged to register.
CodeRED allows for geographically based delivery, which means street addresses are required to ensure emergency notification calls are received by the proper individuals in a given situation. The system works for cell phones as well but associated street address is needed to provide relevant messages. CodeRED gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information. The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes. Additional questions should be directed to the Tewksbury Police Department at 978-640-4380, ext. 214.

CodeRED is a new emergency notification service by which the Tewksbury Police Department can notify Tewksbury residents and businesses by telephone, cellular phone, text message, or electronic mail about time-sensitive emergency situations or important Community alerts. The system is capable of sending messages only to specific neighborhoods or the entire Town.
- For what kinds of situations will CodeRED be used?
-
Any message regarding the safety or welfare of our community would be disseminated using the CodeRED system. Examples would include severe weather warnings and updates, hazardous traffic or road conditions inside the town or affecting local routes, and any other situation that could impact the safety, property, or welfare of the Community.
- Does the Town have my telephone number, or do I have to sign up to receive CodeRED emergency calls?
-
The CodeRED Database does use information received from public databases including regional phone books. Cellphones and Unlisted numbers may not be available. The home page of the Tewksbury Police Department website, has a link to a CodeRED registration form you can fill out online. This is the quickest way to sign up because the information you supply will immediately update Tewksbury's CodeRED telephone number database. If you do not have access to the internet at home, please consider using a computer at the Tewksbury Library or ask a friend or family member for assistance. Online registration is the most efficient, accurate and private way to supply your information.
To register online you might first have to adjust your internet browser to enable cookies, otherwise you may receive an error message. If you can not register online, you can call the Tewksbury Police Department at 978-851-7373, ext. 211. It is our intention and hope that every residence and commercial facility in our community will be included in the notification database.
- I have a business located in Tewksbury. Can I arrange to have CodeRED call my business?
-
Yes. Fill out the CodeRED online registration form but be sure to select the "This address is business" option. Please note that emergency calls can only be delivered to a direct dial number. Automated attendants will disrupt the process and the calls will not be delivered. Businesses should register their main number and establish a procedure for distributing the CodeRED message to their workforce.
- The registration form only allows me to enter a primary and secondary telephone number. What if I want to register additional numbers for my address?
-
After you submit the initial registration form, you may start the registration process again and submit more numbers for the same address.
