To schedule a residential smoke detector inspection for the sale of a home, you must come down to the Center Fire Station located at 21 Town Hall Ave. Our office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:00pm. The inspections are $25.00 and we accept cash or check. Checks can be made payable to the "Town of Tewksbury".
Inspections are conducted on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings in a 9:00am to 12:00pm window, provided there are no emergencies. You will receive a phone call the morning of the inspection to narrow down the timeframe.
All smoke detectors must be under 10 years old.
All detectors need to be properly located and tested prior to the inspection. You will fail the inspection and be charged a $25.00 re-inspection fee if any smoke or CO detector does not work due to a mechanical defect, has missing or dead batteries, or if your house numbers are missing or not visible from the street side of the house.
House numbers must be permanently affixed to the house by either nails or screws and they must be clearly visible from the street. House numbers affixed to doors or a mailbox alone do not meet this requirement.
