Effective March 6, 2023, Open Gov will be the online permitting system for the Town of Tewksbury. Click here to apply for Building, Health, DPW/Engineering, and Conservation Permits. Other communities such as North Andover, Burlington, and Marlborough have rolled out this system with great success. Contractors who have already registered with Open Gov in other communities will have credentials to apply for permits in Tewksbury with their license information incorporated. Applicants will be able to apply online, upload plans, and follow along with the permitting process as departments sign off and inspections are completed.
Town staff undertook the effort to start moving toward all-online permitting in June 2022. After a nine-month process, final touches have been made – for now. These initial permit conversions are just the first step. Other departments such as Select Board, Town Clerk, and Planning are anticipated to bring their applications online over the next few years as they are built out.
While most of the historical data migration has been completed ahead of the launch, residents and contractors should expect some delays as in-progress permits are adjusted for the new system. All contractors that may have used the DPW and Building Department’s limited online permitting should cease using those links as this new permitting software is rolled out.
For questions regarding the status of current permits or if you are unable to apply online, please contact the department with which you have an application. Any general questions can be directed to Steve Sadwick at ssadwick@tewksbury-ma.gov.
