On Friday, August 4, 2017, at approximately 11:00 AM, a Distraction B&E occurred in Tewksbury.
An elderly Asian couple were both lured from their home by an individual who represented himself as a home inspector. The suspect was described as an Hispanic male, stocky build, baseball cap, polo shirt and khaki pants. he was operating a white "sports type" vehicle with a rear spoiler. The suspect spoke to another party via walkie-talkie as he brought the couple out behind their residence to show them some trees that would need to be removed.
A short time after the suspect left, the couple noticed cash missing from a fanny pack just inside the front door.
Additional witnesses located said the vehicle was definitely a Nissan Sentra.
This alert is being posted as a reminder to be vigilant and to contact police if anyone approaches your residence claiming to be a contractor, inspector, vendor, utility worker, or other unexpected guest. Legitimate businesses will not come to your home without an appointment, and in situations involving emergency repairs, all public safety and utility personnel will have clearly marked vehicles and identification.
